Subdue the rebel in our soul ;
Chase from our minds the' infernal foe
And peace, the fruit of faith, bestow :
And, lest again we go astray,
Protect and guide us in the way.
5 Immortal honours, endless fame
Attend the' almighty Father's name ;
The Saviour Son be glorified,
Who for lost man's redemption died ;
And equal adoration be,
Eternal Comforter, to Thee !

And all the sons of glory seal,
And change, and make us all like thee

* » Go mourning all their days ?
Great Comforter, descend, and bring
The tokens of thy grace.
2 Dost thou not dwell in all thy saints,
And seal the heirs of heaven ?
When wilt thou banish my complaints
And show my sins forgiven ?
3 Assure my conscience of its part
In the Redeemer's blood ;
And bear thy witness with my heart,
That I am born of God.
4 Thou art the earnest of his love,
The pledge of joys to come :
May thy blest wings, celestial Dove,
Safely convey me home !
