3 And shall we then for ever live At this poor dying rate ? Our love so faint, so cold to Thee, And thine to us so great ! 4 Come, Holy Spirit, heavenly Dove, With all thy quick'ning powers ; Come, shed abroad the Saviour's love, And that shall kindle ours. HYMN 653. l. m. The Day of Pentecost. 1 /OME, Holy Spirit, raise our songs, - To reach the wonders of the day, When with thy fiery cloven tongues Thou didst those glorious scenes display k2 O 'twas a most auspicious hour, Season of grace and sweet delight, When thou didst come with mighty power, And light of truth divinely bright. 3 By this the blest disciples knew Their risen Head had enter'd heaven ; Had now obtain'd the promise due, Fully by God the Father given. 4 Lord, we believe to us and ours The apostolic promise given ; We wait the Pentecostal powers, The Holy Ghost sent down from heaven. 5 Ah ! leave us not to mourn below. Or long for thy return to pine ; The Holy Spirit. 597 Now, Lord, the Comforter bestow, And fix in us the Guest divine. 6 Assembled here with one accord, Calmly we wait the promised grace, The purchase of our dying Lord : Come, Holy Ghost, and fill the place. 7 If every one that asks may find, If still thou dost on sinners fall, Come as a mighty rushing wind ; Great grace be now upon us all. 8 Behold, to thee our souls aspire, And languish thy descent to meet ■ Kindle in each the living fire, And fix in every heart thy seat. Veni, Creator. 1 /CREATOR, Spirit, by whose aid The world's foundations first were laid, Come visit every waiting mind, Come pour thy joys on human kind ; From sin and sorrow set us free, And make thy temples worthy thee. 2 O source of uncreated heat, The Father's promised Paraclete ! Thrice holy Fount, immortal Fire, Our hearts with heavenly love inspire : Come, and thy sacred unction bring, To sanctify us while we sing. 3 Plenteous of grace, descend from high, Rich in thy sevenfold energy !
