Means of Grace
3 The world, sin, death, oppose in vain ; Thou, by thy dying, death hast slain, My great Deliverer, and my God ! In vain does the old Dragon rage, In vain all hell its powers engage ; None can withstand thy conquering blood. 4 Lord over all, sent to fulfil Thy gracious Father's sovereign will, To thy dread sceptre will I bow : With duteous reverence at thy feet, Like humble Mary, lo ! I sit ; Speak, Lord ! thy servant heareth now. 5 Renew thine image, Lord, in me ; Lowly and gentle may I be ; No charms but these to thee are dear : No anger may'st thou ever find, No pride, in my unruffled mind, But faith, and heaven-born peace, be there ! 6 A patient, a victorious mind, That life and all things casts behind. Shall I never, never know Thy sanctifying grace ? Wilt thou not the light afford, The darkness from my soul remove Help me, Saviour, speak the word, And perfect me in love. 3 Lord, if I on thee believe, The second gift impart ; With the' indwelling Spirit give A new, a contrite heart : If with love thy heart is stored, If now o'er me thy bowels move, Help me, Saviour, speak the word, And perfect me in love. 4 Let me gain my calling's hope ; O make the sinner clean ! Dry corruption's fountain up, Cut off the' entail of sin : Take me into thee, my Lord, And I shall then no longer rove : Help me, Saviour, speak the word. And perfect me in love. Seeking for full Redemption. 337 5 Thou, my Life, my Treasure be, My portion here below ; Nothing would 1 seek but thee, Thee only would I know, My exceeding great Reward,
