And ready may I be ;
For ever standing on my guard,
And looking up to thee.
3 O do thou always warn
My soul of evil near !
When to the right or left I turn,
Thy voice still let me hear :
For Believers Watching. 295

" Come back ! this is the way ;
Come back, and walk herein ! *'
O may I hearken and obey,
And shun the paths of sin !
Thou seest my feebleness ;
Jesus, be thou my power,
My help and refuge in distress,
My fortress and my tower.
Give me to trust in thee !
Be thou my sure abode ;
My horn, and rock, and buckler be,
My Saviour, and my God.
Myself I cannot save,
Myself I cannot keep :
But strength in thee I surely have,
Whose eye-lids never sleep :
My soul to thee alone
Now therefore I commend ;
Thou, Jesus, love me as thy own,
And love me to the end.
1 T^ATHER, to thee I lift mine eyes,
JL My longing eyes, and restless heart
Before the morning watch I rise,
And wait to taste how good thou art,
To' obtain the grace I humbly claim,
The saving power of Jesu's name.
2 This slumber from my soul, O shake !
Warn by thy Spirit's inward call ;
Let me to righteousness awake,
And pray that I no more may fall,
Or give to sin or Satan place,
But walk in all thy righteous ways.
^*yb For Believers Watching.

3 O would'st thou, Lord, thy servant guard,
'Gainst every known or secret foe ;
A mind for all assaults prepared,
A sober, vigilant mind bestow,
Ever apprized of danger nigh,
And when to light, and when to fly.
4 O never suffer me to sleep
Secure within the verge of hell ,
But still my watchful spirit keep
In lowly awe and loving zeal ;
And bless me with a godly fear,
And plant that guardian -angel here !
5 Attended by the sacred dread,
And wise from evil to depart,
Let me from strength to strength proceed,
And rise to purity of heart ;
Through all the paths of duty move,
From humble faith to perfect love.
