HYMN 270. s. m.
1 T^ QUIP me for the war,
-■-- ' And teach my hands to fight ;
My simple, upright heart prepare,
And guide my words aright ;
Control my every thought ;
My whole of sin remove ;
Let all my works in thee be wrought.
Let all be wrought in love.
2 O arm me with the mind,
Meek Lamb ! which was in thee ;
And let my knowing zeal be join'd
With perfect charity :
With calm and temper' d zeal
Let me enforce thy call ;
And vindicate thy gracious will,
Which offers life to all.
3 O do not let me trust
In any arm but thine !
Humble, O humble to the dust,
This stubborn soul of mine !
A feeble thing of nought,
With lowly shame I own,
The help which upon earth is wrought,
Thou dost it all alone.
4 O may I love like thee !
In all thy footsteps tread !
Thou hatest all iniquity,
But nothing thou hast made.
O may I learn the art,
With meekness to reprove ;

To hate the sin with all my heart,
But still the sinner love.
1 (^ ALMIGHTY God of Love,
^^ Thy holy arm display ;
Send me succour from above,
In this my evil day :
Arm my weakness with thy power,
Woman's Seed, appear within ;
Be my Safeguard and my Tower
Against the face of sin.
2 Could I of thy strength take hold,
And always feel thee near,
Confident, divinely bold,
My soul would scorn to fear :
Nothing should my firmness shock ;
Though the gates of hell assail,
Were I built upon the Rock,
They never could prevail.
3 Rock of my salvation, haste,
Extend thy ample shade ;
Let it over me be cast,
And screen my naked head :
Save me from the trying hour ;
Thou my sure protection be ;
Shelter me from Satan's power,
Till I am fix'd on Thee.
4 Set upon thyself my feet,
And make me surely stand ;
From temptation's rage and heat
Cover me with thy hand :
Let me in the cleft be placed,
Never from my fence remove ;
In thine arms of love embraced,
Of everlasting love.
