To ask thy pardoning grace.
2 Entering into my closet, I
The busy world exclude ;
In secret prayer for mercy cry,
And groan to be renew' d.
3 Far from the paths of men, to thee
I solemnly retire ;
See, thou who dost in secret see,
And grant my heart's desire.
4 Thy grace I languish to receive,
The Spirit of love and power ;
Blameless before thy face to live,
To live and sin no more.
5 Fain would I all thy goodness feel,
And know my sins forgiven ;
And do on earth thy perfect will
As angels do in heaven.
Convinced of Sin 119
6 O Father, glorify thy Son,
And grant what 1 require :
For Jesu's sake the gift send down,
And answer me by fire.
7 Kindle the flame of love within,
Which may to heaven ascend ;
And now the work of grace begin,
Which shall in glory end.
* HYMN 120. 6-8' s.
1 /^OMFORT, ye ministers of grace,
^-^ Comfort my people, saith your God !
Ye soon shall see his smiling face,
His golden sceptre, not his rod ;
And own, when now the cloud's removed,
He only chasten'd whom he loved.
2 Who sow in tears, in joy shall reap ;
The Lord shall comfort all that mourn ;
Who now go on their way and weep,
With joy they doubtless shall return,
And bring their sheaves with vast increase,
And have their fruit to holiness.
HYMN 121. 6-8'j.
1 T^XPAND thy wings, celestial Dove,
*-J And, brooding o'er my nature's night,
Call forth the ray of heavenly Love ;
Let there in my dark soul be light ;
And fill the' illustrated abyss
With glorious beams of endless bliss.
2 " Let there be light,'' again command,
And light there in our hearts shall be ;
We then through faith shall understand
Thy great mysterious Majesty ;
And, by the shining of thy grace,
Behold in Christ thy glorious face.

3 Father of everlasting grace,
Be mindful of thy changeless word ;
We worship toward that Holy Place,
In which thou dost thy name record,
Dost make thy gracious nature known,
That living Temple of thy Son.
4 Thou dost with sweet complacence see
The temple fill'd with light divine ;
And art thou not well pleased with me,
