Morning Hymn (Another 1)

---
Dark and chearless is the morn
Unaccompanied by thee,
Joyless is the day’s return,
Till thy mercy’s beams I see;
Till they inward light impart,
Glad my eyes, and warm my heart.
Visit then this soul of mine,
Pierce the gloom of sin, and grief,
Fill me, radiancy divine,
Scatter all my unbelief,
More and more thyself display
Shining to the perfect day.
Another [Morning Hymn].11
Jesus the all restoring Word,
My fallen spirit’s hope,
After thy lovely likeness, Lord,
O when shall I wake up!
Thou, O my God, thou only art
The life, the truth, the way:
Quicken my soul, instruct my heart,
My sinking footsteps stay.
Of all thou hast in earth below
In heaven above to give,
Give me thine only self to know,
In thee to walk, and live.
11Charles included this hymn in a later manuscript selection for family use: MS Family, 2-3.
