To Thomas Rutherford Date: LONDON, January 31, 1789. DEAR TOMMY, I think you have done exactly right with regard to Thomas Smith. It seems the less you say about him the better. You have only to go straight forward. The leaders, I doubt not, will take your advice and set an example to others. If it pleases God to continue my life and health, I purpose to set out for Ireland at the usual time and to call upon you at Stockport about the latter end of March. Peace be with all your spirits! I am, dear Tommy, Your affectionate friend and brother.
