Thanksgiving for Colliers (1742) Baker list, 65 Editorial Introduction: In late May 1742 John Wesley visited Newcastle upon Tyne, beginning the Methodist work in this northern metropolis of England. Charles Wesley followed up this initial work with a longer visit through the month of September. Shortly after returning to London, the ledger of William Strahan shows that Charles published on October 13 a four-page leaflet titled Thanksgiving for the Colliers. No copy of this leaflet appears to have survived. It does not appear to have been reprinted. But manuscript versions appear in MS Cheshunt, 11-13; and MS Clarke, 12-15. In addition, Charles placed it in his collected two-volume Hymns and Sacred Poems (1749). Editions: Charles Wesley. Thanksgiving for the Colliers.
